I’ve just returned from a week-long study trip to Penmon, Ynys Mon (Anglesey). The Old Lightboat House is just metres from the sea, its slipway submerged in water at high tide. Facing toward the Menai Strait, the Great Orme and Puffin Island can be seen to the left, and in the distance to the right, Bangor. The mountains of Snowdonia loom beyond.
I have come back to the studio laden with sketches, notes and en plein air works on paper.
Here’s a snapshot:
High Tide on a bright day, looking West towards Bangor (‘Hiraeth’ – SOLD)
An armchair, fit for a sketcher!
The Great Orme and grasses
Sun breaks through clouds
Yacht on sparkling waters
Trwyn Du Lighthouse
The lighthouses’s ‘bong’ has been removed! Nobody really knows why…
Oystercatchers and rain over the Strait
‘Across The Strait’ Pebbles, weed and waves
Fascinating geology lends its colours to the landscape
Rain over the Strait. The Great Orme, far left
Sea like mercury
Sparkling water (‘I’ll Meet You There’ – SOLD)
Weed on water study
Set up on the slipway
Three White Stones (SOLD)
…for scale! (SOLD – the painting, not me!)
