Do you have a place that means the world to you, that triggers a precious memory, or a place you long to be? Do you want a specific size of painting?
Commissioning is a great way to get a custom-made painting that perfectly suits your space.
Landscape and figurative commissions (full body or portraits) are undertaken subject to availability and suitability, and at my discretion. Please contact me via the website, with your contact details and I will give you a ring to discuss your ideas.
For landscape commissions, how I work will depend on your budget, timescales and the location you wish me to paint. I can work in the studio from photographs, but if possible, I like to visit the place to sketch and explore before working in the studio. This gives me a better understanding of the unique qualities of the place. Alternatively, I can paint the entire work en plein air.
Size: If you commission, you have the opportunity to choose the size so consider the placement of your painting and think about what size will work best. Don’t be afraid to go large. Quite often, people think a small room should be filled with small things, but a large painting can make it feel as if you have an extra window in the room, and open it up (one with a lovely view).
Pricing: A price will be arrived at and agreed with you in advance, based on the size, medium, number of visits (if required), as well as the time it will take to complete the work.
Framing: You may prefer an unframed deep-edged canvas, but if you would like the work framed, this will be in addition to the cost of the painting and I can give you some options. Alternatively, I can supply the work unframed, for you to frame yourself.
Payment: Payment for all commissions is in stages (50% non-returnable deposit before work commences, and a number of % stage payments for the balance, depending on the duration of the job). Once the final payment has been received, the painting is yours to enjoy. Full terms of payment will be supplied with your quote.Contact Kate
I also take commissions for eye portraits, inspired by 18th century ‘Lover’s Eye’ paintings. They make a perfect present for a loved one. Click here to find out more…
