I painted this from the top of Garrowby Hill, looking over Painsthorpe Dale and the Vale of York. It was a very warm day and as I sat quietly painting, a hare loped up and lay in the warm, recently ploughed earth a few meters in front of me. I had the pleasure of its company for a good 15–20 minutes until it decided to lope away, along the hedgerow. It could obviously sense I was no threat to it – a magical painting session that I doubt (but hope) will be repeated.
The painting below was painted the day before from a slightly different spot on the ridge.
These paintings are currently available from the studio.
