Lynne and I went sketching at a friend’s farm in Barton le Willows, a village outside York, to catch the bright yellow oilseed rape in flower.

Back in the studio, the sketches and memories formed the basis for a series of paintings…

I’ve worked in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, paste, ink and graphite, and have enjoyed exploring the colours and textures of the landscape. The leaves were not out quite out on the trees and there was a starkness to the dark hedgerows and white blossoms against the yellow fields and cold, steely skies.
